A Compact Ku-band 24-cavity Relativistic Magnetron with TEM Mode Output

As a mature high-power microwave source, relativistic magnetrons have advantages in high efficiency and compact configuration. However, the investigation of relativistic magnetrons mainly focuses on relatively low-frequency band, such as L-band to X-band. In this article, we present a compact Ku-band RM with TEM mode output. In the interaction region 24 cavities and π-mode are chosen to generate the Ku-band microwave. Particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations show that when the diode voltage is 120kV and the applied axial magnetic field is 0.215T, microwaves with a resonant frequency of 13.717GHz generate. The power conversation efficiency can reach 39.3%, corresponding to an output power of 55MW.
