A Novel Design of Dualband Microstrip Patch Antenna for 5G Mobile Communication

This paper proposes a novel design for a dualband microstrip patch antenna which is composed of two spiral rectangles in an S shape. The overall size of the antenna is 40mm × 40mm×1.6mm, which can satisfy the miniaturization requirement, and the substrate is made of FR4 dielectric material. The structure has been optimized by using the well-known high frequency structure simulator (HFSS), and the simulation results show that the antenna has two frequency bands with the frequency of 2.49–2.69GHz (n41) and 3.37–3.53GHz (n77/n78), respectively, which can fully meet the requirement of 5G mobile communication. Moreover, observing the surface current distribution at two operating frequencies and conducting simulation analysis on the antenna, it was found that the antenna has good performance in the S-band and may be very suitable for 5G mobile communication applications.
