Analysis of Electromagnetic Scattering Properties of Hypersonic Turbulence

In this paper, based on fractal theory and two-dimensional (2D) band-limited Weierstrass fractal function, simulating of hypersonic turbulence refractiveindex fluctuation. According to the calculation method of reflection coefficient of multilayer lossy medium in physical optics (PO) method, a refractiveindex fluctuation amount caused by plasma turbulence was added to calculate the backscattering radar cross section (BRCS) of hypersonic vehicle, and analysing the influence of plasma turbulence on electromagnetic (EM) scattering characteristics of hypersonic vehicle. The numerical results show that the influence of hypersonic turbulence on the scattering characteristics of EM wave increases with the increase of refractiveindex fluctuation. Among them, the refractive-index fluctuation variance plays an important role in the two-dimensional refractiveindex fluctuation function, whose value is inversely proportional to the EM wave frequency, and is closely related to the change rule of plasma electron density of hypersonic vehicle at different flight heights. In addition, the EM scattering characteristics of hypersonic turbulence are affected by the variation of incident EM wave frequency and flight altitude. In the low frequency band, the random fluctuation effect of turbulent scattering is not obvious. On the contrary, in the high frequency band, the plasma sheath turbulence will have certain EM scattering disturbance to hypersonic vehicle.
