A High Power Stealthy Radome Based on Frequency Selective Surface for Radar Cross Section Reduction

Advanced stealthy radome technology is the current research hotspot in the radar field. Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) is the most widely used functional material to realize radome stealthy at home and abroad. Loading the FSS onto the radome can transmit in-passband wave and scatter out-passband wave. Combined with the low-scattering profile design, FSS radome can effectively reduce the Radar Cross Section (RCS). In this paper, a hexagonal bandpass FSS unit cell is designed, which has good filtering characteristics, polarization stability, and incidence angle stability. The FSS unit cells can be composed into arrays with power capacities of GW. Furthermore, a flat plate FSS radome is designed integrally with a waveguide slot antenna. To verify the effectiveness of RCS reduction, a dielectric radome was established as a reference. The results show the FSS radome can realize monostatic RCS reduction in a specific frequency range. The maximum RCS reduction can be greater than 10 dB. It indicates that the FSS radome possesses certain stealth performance.
