Direction-finding and Adaptive Beamforming Methods

The purpose of the study is to implement adaptive beamforming and an equalsignal method of direction-finding of a radiation source (RS). This method can be implemented by calculating two radiation patterns (RP) that have different directions of maximum radiation. It based on a comparison of RP levels in the direction of the source was considered in the MATLAB environment.The objectives of the study are:–determination of the elevation angle of the radiation source.–formation of a RP null in the direction of the radiation source.The object of study is an Antenna Array (AA) with adaptive beamforming.The following assumptions are made:–location of the antenna array: in free space;–the interference situation is stationary;–type of interference: point, simulating, barrage.The study contains:–Implementation of an algorithm for direction finding of a radiation source using the equal-signal method, calculation of the error in determining the direction.–Implementation of the adaptive beamforming algorithm, calculation of the signal-to-jamming ratio. The simulation performed in the MATLAB/GNU Octave environment using design results and electromagnetic analysis in electrodynamic modeling environment. Data transfer between the MATLAB/GNU Octave and electrodynamic modeling environment carried out using the ActiveX Framework.For the direction-finding algorithm, an accuracy in determining the elevation angle of at least 5° achieved.During the study, the following results were obtained:–an adaptive diagram formation algorithm has been implemented;–an algorithm for direction finding of a radiation source using the equal-signal method has been implemented;–radiation patterns were obtained that ensure suppression of radiation sources for various angular positions of targets and radiation sources;–the values of the signal/noise ratio and direction-finding error are determined.
