The Brain-controlled Programmable Metasurface Holography

The human intentions can be directly extracted and decoded to computer commands to control devices by brain-computer interface (BCI). Here, we present a brain-computer-metasurface holography (BCMH) system, which can clearly demonstrate human intentions in the electromagnetic (EM) field. The proposed BCMH system is composed of a 1-bit programmable metasurface electrically driven by a field programmable gate array (FPGA) and a P300-based BCI device. Once the operator with an EEG cap stares at the flashing target buttons of the computer screen, the brain intentions corresponding to the P300 waveform can be quickly extracted, processed, and mapped to EM holographical images by the proposed BCMH system. The flexible EM manipulation and human brain intelligence are organically connected to promote more potential human-machine interaction scenarios. The experimental results show good consistency with the theoretical expectation, verifying the good performance of the proposed BCMH system.
