A Low-cost Displacement Sensor Based on Chipless RFID Tag with Microstrip Notch Circuit

Small displacements within large building structures can occur during use, which are often caused by man-made and natural causes and can threaten the health of the structure. In this paper, a new sensor is proposed to measure the small displacements inside the structure. It is a chipless Radio frequency identification (RFID) tag sensor based on a multi-band bandstop filter with an operating frequency of 500MHz–2.5GHz, which is simulated by HFSS software and shows a good linear relationship between the displacement change and the resonant frequency change in the measurement of lateral displacement. This proves that it has the ability to monitor small displacements inside the structure, which together with its easy processing can be deployed in large numbers inside buildings.
