Project of 700 GHz/300 kW/10 ms Pulsed Gyrotron for Initiating and Studying Localized Gas Discharges

The design of the powerful pulse gyrotron with the operating frequency 700 GHz is suggested. The analytical estimation of the main parameters of the diode magnetron-injection gun as well as further numerical optimization of it’s geometry and regime are fulfilled. The mode competition problem to provide single-mode excitation for the case of very dense mode spectrum within the cyclotron resonance frequency band is solved. The cavity shape was found. Results of theoretical consideration of key main gyrotron elements show that the suggested gyrotron is feasible and should provide a significantly higher peak and average power of microwave radiation than existing analogues.
