L/C Dual Band Vertical Polarized Shared-aperture Antenna

A low profile broadband shared-aperture antenna with vertical polarization and omnidirectional radiation pattern is proposed to cover some emerging wireless communication applications. For the L-band monocone antenna three copper bars are utilized to short the monocone at the edge to lower the minimum operating frequency. For the C-band antenna, the operating bandwidth is broadened by loading a coupling ring on the circular patch which is fed at the center. The C-band antenna is vertically placed on the top of the monocone antenna to achieve a common aperture design. The presented design combines the benefits of low-profile and broad bandwidth of the inverted hat monopole. The simulation results show that the impedance bandwidth of 95% (1.05GHz ~ 2GHz) and 43.3% (5.63GHz ~ 7.36GHz) are achieved for the antenna operating in L and C frequency bands respectively. It is also exhibits that good impedance matching and radiation pattern in the two frequency bands.
