A Time-modulated Metasurface with Polarization Division Multiplexing for Wireless Communication Systems

This paper presents a broadband time-modulated metasurface unit cell which is capable of independently manipulating electromagnetic waves in the two orthogonal polarization directions. Simulation verification has been conducted for the proposed metasurface unit cell, which shows good cross-polarization isolation, and demonstrates that a 180°±20° phase bandwidth of 16% is achieved in both polarization directions. The proposed metasurface unit cell may finds promising applications in low-cost wireless communication systems.
