A Rotating Reconfigurable Water Antenna Design

This paper proposes a reconfigurable water antenna that changes the shape of the water body by using the effect of rotational centrifugation. It utilizes microstrip coupling to excite a columnar water body for electromagnetic radiation, realizing the function of the antenna. At the same time, it rotates the water container at the appropriate speed by a motor, causing the shape of the water body to change due to centrifugal action. The deformation of the water can achieve changes in the working frequency and radiation pattern of the antenna. By adjusting the rotating speed of the water body, the continuous characteristic changes of the antenna can be realized. The design is verified by simulation and the antenna design with the working frequencies near 2–2.5GHz is obtained. This work has good application potential in the wireless sensing fields of water detection and industrial production monitoring.
