Optimization of Radiation Output in Surface-wave Oscillators Based on 2D-periodical Slow-wave Structures of Planar Geometry

To optimize the radiation output in spatially-extended Surface-Wave Oscillators (SWO) of planar geometry synchronized by means of a two-dimensional distributed feedback mechanism, the use of slow-wave structures (SWS) with asymmetrical 2D-periodic corrugation is proposed. It is shown that changing the ratio of longitudinal and transverse corrugation periods by about 3% makes it possible to achieve the power of longitudinally-propagating wavefluxes 6–7 times higher than that of transversely-propagating wave-fluxes, while maintaining the selective properties of the 2D SWS. Computer simulations and optimization of parameters have been carried out to implement powerful W-band planar SWO, which is being developed in collaboration between BINP RAS (Novosibirsk) and IAP RAS (Nizhny Novgorod) based on the "ELMI" accelerator complex.
