A Single-layer Unit of Reflectarray Antenna Based on Mandelbrot Fractal Geometry for Dual-band Communications

This paper proposed a single-layer unit of reflectarray antenna based on Mandelbrot fractal geometry for dual-band communications. The antenna unit consists of a circular ring and a Mandelbrot fractal-shaped patch at the center of the ring. Simulation results show that the antenna unit operates at 7.8 GHz and 15.8 GHz, which correspond to the C-band and Ku-band in satellite communications, respectively. By changing the unit patch size, the reflectarray unit can realize a phase shift of 346° and 678° at 7.8 GHz and 15.8 GHz, respectively.
