Sensory Diagnostics of Ionospheric and Transionospheric Radio Communication Channels. Methods and Equipment of Volga State University of Technology

This paper presents the main approaches to developing methods, algorithms, and their hardware and software implementations using Software-Defined Radio (SDR) and IT technologies at Volga State University of Technology. These innovations are intended for sensory diagnostics of ground-based reflective and transionospheric channels. The results obtained from complex studies carried out during multiple years demonstrated their high scientific and practical significance for studying space weather and the propagation of wave packets with various intrapulse modulations in the ionosphere. Practical applications of these results include terrestrial narrowband and wideband HF communications, over-the-horizon radar, and wideband satellite communications. The presented innovations significantly mitigate the drawbacks of radio communication and location systems operating in the dynamic conditions of near space.
