Enhancing Covertness and Noise Immunity of NVIS HF Communication Systems Through Adaptive Dispersion Correction Using Channel Sensor Data

This paper proposes a method aimed at leveraging the dispersion effect to enhance the energy covertness and noise immunity of HF communication systems. The method addresses the challenge of overcoming intramode dispersion. Its autonomous application at each reception point is achieved through demodulation of the random phase component, significant expansion of the channel bandwidth, and consideration of the variability of the propagation medium. The method is tailored for integration with breakthrough Software-Defined Radio technology, facilitating the incorporation of HF channel sensors for adaptive dispersion correction into modern shortwave communication systems. We carried out full-scale experiments on the NVIS radio path Yoshkar-Ola-to-Yalchik lake to validate the developed method, algorithms, and software. These experiments yielded new data on enhancing the covertness and noise immunity of HF communications in NVIS mode, including the lifetime of the HF channel of 1 MHz width.
