Robust Double Integral Sliding Mode MPPT Controller for a PV System under Varying Atmospheric Conditions

In this article, we present an efficient control strategy for a typical photovoltaic (PV) system model, implementing a robust double integral sliding mode control (DISMC) specifically designed for the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique. The studied structure of PV-system is comprised of the power source PV unit, an amplifier DC_DC converter, and a resistance load. This approach allows an optimal operating mode around the assumed MPPT point of the PVsystem by controlling the DC-DC converter duty cycle. In addition, the photovoltaic system stability with the DISMC method is examined by applying the well-known theory of Lyapunov, then the efficiency of the developed strategy is considered by comparing it with standard sliding mode control (SMC). Hence, based on the numerical simulation, it appears that the developed DISMC approach is effective at tracking error, transition response, and shows rapid feedback to sudden variations in atmospheric conditions.
