A Robust Integral Quasi-Sliding Mode Control for MPPT based Photovoltaic System with a DC–DC Boost Converter

This work studies maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of a photovoltaic (PV) generator, in which a robust Integral Quasi-Sliding Mode Controller was applied to track the MPP by modifying the duty cycle of a DC-DC boost converter. The PV system consist of a PV array, a DC-DC boost converter and a resistive load. The present work includes a stability analysis of the controller based on Lyapunov theory. To evaluate its performance in tracking the MPP of the system, the QI-SMC is compared to the integral and conventional Sliding Mode Controllers in three environmental conditions cases; firstly, standard test conditions (STC), then a step transition in solar radiation and finally sinusoidal form variation in solar irradiance with different values of temperature. Simulations that were done using MATLAB platform show a good performance in terms of tracking error and time response under sudden irradiation and temperature variations.
