PV fed Off-board E-bike Battery Charger using LLC Resonant Converter

In this paper, a PV-fed off-board e-bike battery charging system using an inductor-inductor capacitor (LLC) resonant converter is presented. The resonant LLC converters are preferred these days for electric vehicle (EV) battery charging applications for their better characteristics in terms of higher efficiency, galvanic isolation, higher power density, low electromagnetic interference (EMI), wide input voltage range, and soft switching characteristics. The proposed charger consists of a LLC converter with a controllable rectifier. The closed-loop control is applied for the charger using the doubleloop PI control strategy. The control includes a Constant Current- Constant Voltage (CC-CV) charging and zero voltage switching (ZVS). The charger topology is studied and analyzed using MATLAB/Simulink. The designed topology can be adapted for efficient charging of e-bikes using solar energy.
