High-Performance Directional Printed Antenna Array for 5G Applications at 28 GHz

This paper proposes a novel directional patch antenna array designed for high-performance applications. The array consists of three identical patch elements arranged in a linear configuration. A Rogers RT/duroid laminate with a dielectric constant of 2.2, a loss tangent of 0.0009, and a thickness of 0.5 mm serve as the substrate. The array is fed using a microstrip line for efficient signal delivery. This design offers significant advantages compared to existing literature. Unlike conventional single-element antennas that struggle with space constraints, the proposed array leverages the combined radiation of multiple elements to achieve superior performance characteristics, as evidenced by key parameters throughout the paper. Notably, the microstrip feed with optimized element spacing (half-wavelength) minimizes unwanted noise coupling.
