Design Techniques for optimizing an Adaptive Decision Feedback Equalizer for 5G Communication

This comprehensive study investigates two critical aspects of advanced communication systems. Firstly, it explores novel design strategies and architectures for Adaptive Decision Feedback Equalizers (ADFE) in high-speed communication systems. Techniques such as look-up tables, distributed arithmetic, and predictive parallel branch slicers are employed to enhance convergence rates, throughput, and error performance while minimizing hardware complexity. The proposed designs showcase substantial progress in area, power efficiency, and logic utilization across various modulation schemes, channel models, and mobility scenarios. Secondly, the research delves into Ultra-Reliable Low Latency Communication (URLLC) advancements within the 5G New Radio (NR) downlink, addressing physical layer challenges specified in 3GPP Release 15. The study introduces a novel communication system leveraging turbo codes to mitigate inter-symbol interference in wireless environments. Additionally, innovative parallel designs for high-speed Decision Feedback Equalizers (DFEs) and hardware-efficient architectures for adaptive equalizers using distributed arithmetic are presented. The combined findings contribute valuable insights into optimizing adaptive equalizers for future-generation communication systems and advancing URLLC in 5G NR.
