A Compact Filtenna Design Using Bandpass Filter for WLAN Applications

In this study, a compact filtenna design is presented for 2.4 GHz. The work consists of three stages: antenna, filter and the filtenna design where these two structures are combined. The aim of this study is to design the antenna and filter on a common substrate. In this way, a more compact structure will be created and material will be saved. As the filter structure, a (Band Pass Filter) BPF filter was preferred that passes the signal at 2.4 GHz. The equivalent circuit model of the filter has been extracted to see the frequency response and the structure is positioned right in front of the microstrip feed line. With the utilizing of the proposed method, an 8% size reduction in the structure was achieved. The obtained simulation results showed that the proposed filtenna design could be an alternative for WLAN applications.
