Fast Earthquake Damage Assessment System

A local seismic network in an urban areas exposed to the seismic hazard represents a tools able to accomplish several tasks. Among these, a system capable of providing a fast assessment of damages consequent to strong earthquakes. This contribution deals with the preliminary studies necessary for the design of such composite system which should take into account many different aspects such as the type of expected earthquakes, the local geological model and the possible amplification effects, or the type of sensors to be installed. In particular, this study focuses on the numerical simulations of earthquake scenarios for a real application. Results indicates the effectiveness of a FEDAS based on MEMS sensors implemented in the city of Messina (Italy).
