Low-Cost Marked Tracking Monitoring System for 3D-Scaled Masonry Models

This paper introduces a low-cost marker-based tracking system for monitoring 3D-scaled masonry models using ArUco markers and a commercial smartphone. A preliminary experimental characterization has been carried out to assess the performance of the proposed system against a 6-degree of freedom reference motorized system. The obtained expanded uncertainty in measuring the orientation of markers is around 0.5°, which is acceptable for the specific application. Furthermore, to prove the capability in tracking 3D-scaled masonry models, a dynamic test has been performed where 19 targets have been used to track the elements of an arch subjected to a displacement of its right support base.
