Multipath-Exploited Bistatic Sensing with LoS Blockage in MIMO-OFDM Systems for 6G

Sensing is one of the key capabilities in the sixth generation (6G) networks. Multipath is a challenging problem for high-accuracy sensing. Although several solutions to multipath mitigation and exploitation have been proposed, few of them considered the line-of-sight (LoS) blockage in bistatic sensing, which is even more difficult. In this work, we explore the geometric relationship of the scatterer, the real target, as well as the “ghost target” and design an iterative sensing algorithm in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Besides the joint angle-of-departure (AoD), angle-of-arrival (AoA) estimation and the range estimation, the algorithm also contains the procedure of signal restoration and cancellation, considering the strong power difference between paths caused by multi-bounce reflection. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the designed algorithm and reveal the influence of the transmitted power as well as the target and scatterer's radar cross sections (RCSs).
