Realistic Correlation Modeling for Fluid Antenna Systems

Fluid Antenna Systems are a promising technology meant to play an important role in new-generation wireless communications. Although it has been shown that they can outperform regular MIMO systems in some configurations, the analysis until now may have been using simplified models that do not take into account the correlation characteristics of different environments. We propose a system model to evaluate the effect of considering realistic correlation environments in fluid antenna systems. We present the outage probability of some of these scenarios that were evaluated without resorting to parameters with difficult physical interpretation. We compare our results with others that can be found in the literature, according to 3GPP and state-of-the-art models. In these scenarios, we show the importance of using realistic correlation models not to over or underestimate the capabilities of these systems.
