Development of a Calculation Model to Research the Properties of the Counterpoise

The installation of traditional lightning discharge protection measures does not always allow to reduce the number of lightning outages to an acceptable level. Existing approaches to the study of lightning protection properties of counterpoise are considered. The hypothesis about lightning protection property of counterweight is raised, a model for the study of shunt properties of counterpoise is developed and proposed. For this purpose, an electric field model has been developed, which makes it possible to simulate the field created by the movement of charges in the upper layer of the soil, when a thunderstorm cloud moves along the overhead power lines track across the boundary of the geoelectric division of the soils. The article describes the requirements, following which when creating a model, allows to bring it as close as possible to the original model. Calculations of electric field potential, allowing to confirm the suitability of the model for use for the purpose of research of lightning protection properties of counterpoise, have been carried out. On the basis of the developed model, it is planned to develop recommendations for laying counterpoises in the design of overhead power lines, as well as improving the level of lightning protection of existing transmission lines.
