The Research of the Accuracy of Local Anesthetic Dosing Methods Taking into Account the Pain Threshold of Patients

The invention relates to medicine, namely to anesthesiology. It is known that pain is perceived differently by each person. Each person has an individual pain threshold, which is influenced by various factors. It is logical that if a person has a high pain threshold, then the pain is felt less. Based on this fact, we assume that such a person, in case of surgery, needs a lesser dose of anesthesia than those who have a higher sensitivity to pain. And therefore, the lower the dose, the lower the risk of complications caused by an overdose. We have proposed a refined method for calculating the dose of bupivacaine for local anesthesia, taking into account the pain threshold of patients. The most accurate method for determining a person’s pain threshold has been selected. The dosage of bupivacaine was calculated depending on height, taking into account body mass index and pain threshold level, which would presumably allow a dose reduction. A dose calculation adjustment has also been introduced for patients with underweight. The problem is the low dosing accuracy of bupivacaine solution, which has a significant impact on complications caused by overdose. The object of the study is methods for calculating the dosage of the administered solution, and the subject is methods for determining the pain threshold. The purpose of the study was to justify the choice of dosing method for bupivacaine solution in terms of dosing accuracy before surgery. An analysis of bupivacaine dosing methods was carried out taking into account the pain threshold. An example of calculating the dosage of bupivacaine using the proposed method is also given.
