Improving Signal Performance in Multi-Pulse Semiconductor Rangefinder Systems

The market for pulsed semiconductor rangefinders is currently developing very strongly. The main purpose of such devices is high-precision positioning of objects in such areas as geodesy, construction, navigation equipment, military affairs, etc. Due to the rapid development of ranging devices, the requirements for the maximum measurement range, measurement accuracy and weight-dimensional characteristics of systems have become more stringent. The article focuses on the measured range of rangefinders and provides ways to increase this parameter. For this purpose, a rangefinder prototype was taken and circuit modifications were made. The maximum possible measurement distance directly depends on the detection ability of the photoreceiving channel of the rangefinder. Detection ability, in turn, is determined by the signal-to-noise ratio. Signal-to-noise is the ratio of the power of the useful signal to the power of noise interference. The higher the signal-to-noise value, the less noise interference affects the parameters of the rangefinder system. The signal-to-noise ratio will be measured using an electronic oscilloscope.
