An Alternative Approach to Vector Control of PMSM

The maximum electromagnetic torque produced by the motor, given that the current draw is minimal, occurs when the magnetic flux vectors of the rotor and the stator are perpendicular. This condition is met when the phases of the stator current and EMF coincide. The article describes the author’s proposed algorithm for sensorless control of a synchronous motor with permanent magnets. Firstly, this algorithm ensures that the effective angle is maintained between the phases of the current and the EMF of the stator windings. Secondly, it is also possible to maintain other characteristics of this angle. For example, it may be possible to implement a mode in which a demagnetizing armature reaction is used. At this stage in the algorithm development process, a theoretical foundation is presented, incorporating all necessary calculations, development of a block diagram, and creation of a simplified computer simulation model. Work will soon commence on the practical application of this algorithm, as well as conducting experiments to validate the theory presented in this paper in practice.
