Bridge Circuit Converting Atomic Transactions Between AMBA AXI4 and AMBA AXI5 Standards

The PCI Express (PCIe) is a high-speed communication bus standard that offers many innovative solutions to fulfil the requirements of various systems. One of them is Atomic Operations functionality, which makes cooperation much easier in systems with multiple requesters and responders due to synchronization mechanisms that allow all elements to communicate in a non-blocking manner. The PCIe controller distributed by Cadence Design Systems uses the AMBA AXI5 standard for its implementation. However, many users of this controller still implement the older protocol standard AXI4 in their SoCs (System on Chip). To enable the use of full PCIe functionality, a converter for the AXI4 and AXI5 standards was developed. This paper describes the Bridge Circuit converting Atomic Transactions between AXI4 and AXI5 standards.
