Ethernet APL Survey and Application

The Ethernet APL is an evolution of Physical Layers in communication of Industrial Networks. This paper presents the description and applications of this physical layer, evaluating the historical context of its implementation, as its available functionalities, and the capability to operate in hazardous areas and the ability to work with various industrial network protocols based on Ethernet as PROFINET. Furthermore, it is also discussed the expansion of Ethernet networks in the industrial environment.
