Space Charge Deflection Behavior under Strong Magnetic Fields

In this paper, an experimental device is designed to characterize the asymmetric distribution of charges caused by the charge deflection under a magnetic field in the polypropylene (PP) dielectric. Under the magnetic field, the electric potential difference caused by the asymmetric distribution of charges appears on both sides of the sample. The potential difference increases with the enhancement of the magnetic field. The stronger electric field also promotes the accumulation of the asymmetric charges. In addition, the charge packet phenomenon is observed in this experiment. Increasing the magnetic field can accelerate the charge packets to reach the dynamic equilibrium, and the enhanced electric field drives the charge packet to move faster towards the opposite electrode.
