New Advancements in Measuring the Distribution of Electric Charges within Liquids using PEA

The Electrical Double Layer (EDL) is a physic of charge generation and distribution that appears as soon as a liquid gets in contact with a solid surface. Through not fully understood physicochemical reactions, the solid and liquid molecules react with each other by an ionization process generating electrical charges that are distributed into two layers of opposite polarity, one in the solid and the other one in the liquid. Various theoretical approaches have been developed to understand and predict charge behavior at the interface. Nevertheless, experimental validation using tools is a considerable challenge due to technical issues associated with measuring the relatively low magnitude of the involved charges. The primary goal of this study is to experimentally determine the charge distribution at solid/liquid interfaces, employing an innovative adaptation of the Electro Acoustic Pulse method (PEA-L). The PEA-L measurement instrumentation will be presented, and the response at the aluminum/ethanol interface will be analyzed.
