Effects of Thermal Properties on Insulation Breakdown Behaviors of Epoxy/Al2O3 Composite with Boron Nitride Doping

Epoxy resin/alumina composites are widely used in power equipment due to its superior electrical and mechanical properties. As the insulating support material for high voltage conductor and grounding electrode in GIL/GIS equipment, epoxy resin/Al2O3 composites are subjected to large temperature gradient field generated by high current. The epoxy resin/Al2O3 composites are prone to breakdown under the electric field superimposed on the temperature gradient field, reducing the operational stability of the equipment. In this paper, the influence of hexagonal boron nitride with high thermal conductivity on the thermal conductivity of epoxy resin /Al2O3 composites is investigated. The influence of different doping ratios on the breakdown field strength of the composites is investigated. It also verifies the effectiveness of the high thermal conductivity material to enhance the thermal conductivity and insulation properties of epoxy resin/Al2O3 composites by simulation.
