Partial Discharge Waveform Analysis Using Dynamic Mode Decomposition

The increasing use of electrical power equipment in more demanding conditions has led to a greater need for improved reliability and durability. Consequently, there is growing importance placed on research into the diagnosis of electrical insulation. Partial discharge (PD) measurement has emerged as a valuable technique for this purpose, with ongoing research dedicated to understanding the phenomenon and refining measurement methods. Transient earth voltage (TEV) sensors, designed to detect transient voltage on the earthed metalwork of electrical equipment, offer non-intrusive and simplified approaches for routine inspections. However, the relationship between TEV sensor signals and the characteristics of insulating materials remains unclear. This study investigates the influence of grounding wire and coaxial cable on TEV sensor signals, using fast Fourier transform (FFT) and dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) for analysis. The findings reveal that DMD has superior capability in detecting high-frequency components and provide insights into the impact of grounding wire, coaxial cable, and electromagnetic waves generated by PD on specific frequency bands.
