Study on Space Charge Properties of Different Nano/Epoxy Composites

Under high temperature and high electric field, space charge is easily accumulated in polymer dielectrics, leading to electric field distortion and material deterioration. The addition of nano particles can effectively inhibit space charge accumulation. Here, the different doping ratios (1 wt%, 3 wt%, 5 wt% and 10 wt%) and different types (MgO and Al
2
O
3
) epoxy resin (EP) based nano composites are prepared and the pulsed electroacoustic (PEA) experiments are carried out under 30 kV/mm at 60°C and 80°C. It is found that EP-3 wt% MgO and EP-3 wt% Al
2
O
3
show the best ability to inhibit space charge accumulation, which respectively decrease 76.34% and 58.06% of average space charge density at 3600 sunder 80°C compared with neat EP. Nano MgO particles have better capability to suppress space charge in comparison with nano Al
2
O
3
particles. Furthermore, the different type of added nano particle leads to the different interface zone thickness.
