New Markers Based on HF Signals for Series DC Arc Detection

The current approach towards the More-Electrical and All-Electrical Aircraft (MEA and AEA, respectively) is pulling the new designs of electric power systems to higher rated voltages. This is giving new concerns related to ionization phenomena, and, among then, the DC series arc has revealed hazards in the short-term operation in aircraft. This ionization phenomenon is difficult to detect and there are no commercial devices are still available for this purpose. In addition to the appropriate sensor, conditioning and processing techniques, it is needed to extract from the system, accurate information to detect the arc. This paper point to new markers from HF signals measured by inductive devices.
