Static and Dynamic Fingerprint of RFID Devices

Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology plays a critical role in various domains, yet its susceptibility to counterfeiting poses significant security concerns. This paper explores the application of Shannon Information Theory to quantify and analyze the information content of RFID device fingerprints derived from backscattered signals. Preliminary findings from our examination of the static and dynamic components of the fingerprint suggest a potential trend: the combination of both contributions may generate more information content and exhibit greater entropy than the original fingerprint. Furthermore, varying reader input powers and frequencies may enhance the non-linear behavior of the microchip transponder onboard the tag, resulting in a more intricate fingerprint with less predictability. Our findings underscore the potential to use RFID device fingernrints in robust security applications.
