A Review of Numerical Methods for Solving Grad-Shafranov Equation in Magnetohydrodynamics

Tokamaks are important devices in fusion technology in which high intensity magnetic fields are used to confine hot plasama. The paper reviews some numerical methods for the solution of Grad-Shafranov Equation (GSE) in magnetohydrdynamics (MHD) for plasma equilibrium in tokamak. Some computational aspects of domain and boundary discretization approaches are addressed. illustrative numerical results for the magnetic flux in simple plasma shapes are obtained via Finite Difference Method (FDM), Finite Element Method (FEM) and Boundary Element Method (BEM).
