Psychological Effects of Agents Having Complementary Relationships with People

In this paper, we investigated the psychological effect of a complementary relationship between people and agents by establishing such a relationship through a cooperative target-throwing game in a VR space. Experimental results showed that having a complementary relationship makes the agent appear more intelligent and human-like while also increasing the participant's enjoyment of the target-throwing game and degree of intimacy with the agent.
