Air-Core PCB Motor Focusing on Electrical and Mechanical Integration

This paper proposes an innovative motor that aims to achieve ultra-high torque weight density, and the ultimate in mechanical and electrical integration. A new solution for high torque weight density is revealed by the air-core structure. A new path for mechanical and electrical integration is presented by three-phase PCB coils that employ multilayer heavy copper board. First, the construction of the magnetic circuit and its structural features are shown by electromagnetic field analysis. Then, its drive characteristics are also revealed by FE-simulation. In addition, the prototype of air-core PCB stator and its preliminary experimental results will be revealed.
