Weight Saving in Electric Vehicles Adopting LCC Compensation in Wireless Power Transfer Receivers

This paper addresses the weight reduction of electric vehicles (EVs), equipped with the receiver of a near-field wireless power transfer (WPT) system based on magnetic resonant coupling (MRC) to recharge the onboard battery. Weight reduction is very important to improve the performance of the vehicle, especially in the case of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs). To this aim, the number of turns of the receiving coil made with copper wire needs to be minimized. It is made possible by the use of LCC compensation networks with appropriate values of the reactive parameters, which also allow a reduction of the magnetic field emission. The proposed method is presented, and several numerical tests are illustrated.
