Cascaded Model Predictive Speed and Current Control for IPMSM Drives Fed by CHBMI with MTPA and Flux Weakening capability

In this work, a cascaded model predictive speed and current control for an IPMSM drive with maximum torque per ampere and flux weakening capability is proposed. The speed control is synthetized as a continuous control set and the inner control loop as a finite control set. The two control loops are executed with different sampling frequencies, equal to 1 kHz and 50 kHz for the outer and inner control, respectively. The proposed control allows for maximizing the PMSM drive dynamic performance, thanks to the controllers high bandwidth and, at the same time, it allows for splitting the huge amount of computations related to maximum torque per ampere and flux weakening between the high- and low-frequency control sides. Simulations in the Matlab\Simulink environment are carried out to prove the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.
