Willingness to Accept Direct Load Control within Socio-Economic Groups

This paper explores the complex landscape of Direct Load Control (DLC) acceptance among German residents, presenting findings from a study involving more than 3,712 respondents. The research aims to identify the factors influencing DLC acceptance using a clustering approach based on socio-economic status (SES) indicators. A Principal Component Asset Indicator and a threedimensional socioeconomic status indicator are used to effectively categorize respondents. The Principal Component Asset Indicator enables the formation of clusters based on different asset ownership patterns, providing a differentiated perspective on economic status. At the same time, the SES indicator uses a threedimensional framework - incorporating the dimensions of occupation, education, and income. This multi-faceted approach allows for a comprehensive understanding of the sociodemographic nuances that may influence DLC uptake. Key findings include the identification of potential barriers and facilitators to DLC adoption within distinct socio-economic clusters. Our study reveals patterns in acceptance, emphasizing the need for targeted policy interventions to ensure equitable participation in demand response programs. Preliminary results suggest slightly varying levels of acceptance across SES dimensions. The study further examines the impact of detailed program information on consumer attitudes, uncovering that enhanced communication can shift acceptance rates. The findings highlight the importance of addressing consumer concerns through targeted communication and incentive strategies, tailored to the nuances of different socio-economic groups.
