Improving Transient Stability of Power System through HVDC Controls

The growing use of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission lines with Voltage Source Converter (VSC) integrated into power systems offers significant advantages for enhancing grid stability. Despite these benefits, there is a lack of research exploring how VSC-HVDC utilization can strengthen overall grid robustness. This article addresses this gap by conducting comprehensive simulations on the 39-bus New England network to assess HVDC's potential contributions to grid resilience. Through systematic analysis of simulation results, the study aims to provide insights into how HVDC technology can fortify interconnected grids, improving both stability and reliability in unforeseen events. These findings contribute to ongoing discussions about HVDC's role in power systems, highlighting its potential as a key element in fortifying modern interconnected grids.
