MPSK-MIMO FMCW Radar-Based Indoor Multipath Recognition

We propose a scheme for indoor multipath recognition to identify ghost targets using multiple-input multiple-output frequency-modulated continuous-wave (MIMO FMCW) radar. For ensuring the orthogonality of the transmitted signals, the M-ary phase-shift keying (MPSK) method was exploited. According to an in-depth analysis of the phase information contained in the received signals using MPSK-MIMO FMCW radar, direction-of-arrival (DoA) and direction-of-departure (DoD) information was investigated to identify the multipath. To achieve this, clutter suppression, spatial filtering, and high-resolution DoA/DoD estimation were performed. Simulation and experimental results obtained using a commercial MIMO FMCW radar system indicated that the proposed method can discriminate direct paths from persons and multipaths.
