Integrating Photovoltaic Systems into Urban Infrastructure: A Case Study of Tehran International Tower

In recent years, the integration of photovoltaic solar energy solutions into building structures has garnered significant attention. However, the implementation of photovoltaic systems in existing buildings presents various challenges. This study aims to evaluate the performance of a photovoltaic system integrated with a building in Tehran. The residential Tehran International Tower was chosen as the subject of the study, and the DesignBuilder and PV system software were utilized for the design and assessment of the integrated photovoltaic system. The study investigated the energy output of the photovoltaic system and its impact on reducing CO
2
emissions. The findings revealed that the installation of photovoltaic panels on the facade and windows of Tehran International Tower could generate a total of 1946 megawatt hours of energy annually. This energy production would be sufficient to fully power the building’s lighting department, with an additional surplus production of 198,045 kilowatt hours per year. Furthermore, it was determined that this solar energy production could prevent the release of 3167.97 tons of carbon dioxide annually.
