Driving Biotech Innovation: An Analysis of RD&I Models and Big Data Strategies in Open Innovation Frameworks

Institutions that promote open and shared innovation play a crucial role in promoting collaboration between companies, universities and other organizations. They encourage the exchange of knowledge, technology and resources, driving the development of innovative solutions. These institutions act as catalysts, providing financial support, infrastructure, mentoring and programs that connect entrepreneurs and innovators. In addition, they contribute to the formation of innovation ecosystems, stimulating the creation of collaboration networks that accelerate the generation of ideas and the launch of new products and services. By promoting open and shared innovation, these institutions facilitate the dissemination of knowledge and the solution of complex challenges, driving technological and economic progress. Through interviews with biotechnology development companies and the use of a structured questionnaire, we analyzed real cases of support for the development of new technologies, thus evidencing their business structure, big data strategies, and relevance for strengthening the biotechnology market. As a conclusion, we found that these institutions play an important role in the innovation ecosystem in Brazil and Ireland, especially in terms of connecting actors and strengthening RD&I opportunities. We also identified some common difficulties such as difficulty in accessing specialized labor, automation and digitalization of processes, access to information, difficulties in measuring available resources and lack of centralization of partnership opportunities.
