A Global Perspective on Tourism and Hospitality Education and SDG 4: A Bibliometric Exploration

The United Nations (UN) launched 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in 2015 to safeguard society, the environment, and underwater and overland living beings to provide a better tomorrow. SDG 4’s mission is to provide quality education at the macro- and meso-levels that can help establish harmony and offer the opportunity to earn a livelihood. This study used the Scopus database to identify research already conducted on SDG 4 in the tourism and hospitality industry. A bibliometric analysis using the R-tool was used to study the publication patterns, author contributions, trending keyword identification, dominant countries, major affiliations, and citation analysis. It was observed that out of 353 related papers, only 97 were published since 1989 before the launch of the SDG 2030 agenda. “Green, circular, bio economy: A comparative analysis of sustainability avenues”, published in the “Journal of Cleaner Production” got maximum citations of 391. “Sustainability (Switzerland)” has published a maximum of 37 articles in the relevant area, and the USA published a maximum of 24 articles $(6.8 \%$ of total contribution) on the topic of global concern. Moreover, for a better bibliometric study, more papers in the relevant field are required, but highlighting facts of quality tourism and hospitality education to society is an initiative taken by researchers.
