Angle Encoder Training Equipment for Laboratory Sessions of Electronic Instrumentation

Angle encoders are commonly used in industrial environments to measure angles. There are various types of angle encoders available, differing in measurement technique and output. For the sensor teaching lesson, an angular increment encoder with analog output was chosen. Analog encoders require a specific type of adaptation circuit to obtain measurements. A conversion circuit was designed to acquire the encoder output and prepare the signal for measurement by students. The encoder and conversion circuit were developed using a toolkit designed for laboratory lessons. This allows students to interact with the sensor and gain an understanding of the underlying electronics. This paper presents the development of a system for studying angle encoders in laboratory sessions for the subject of Electronic Instrumentation, which is part of the Industrial Electronic Engineering degree program. Additionally, a laboratory lesson was developed to teach the measurement of distance using encoders and the necessary conversion for representation.
